My name is Adam Heward. I am currently an application developer for the University of Florida. I specialize in building tiered web applications used by University staff and students. I have experience working as a technical project manager in multiple Silicon Valley startups and have spent the last 5 years doing hands on development work. I believe that my past experience makes a developer who is not only good at his craft, but is also an excellent communicator and organizer. A project manager who has a great grasp on the technical aspects of his projects. And a great development shop manager who understands both the project management and technical development sides of the business. When not working you can find me at home enjoying my family or on the tennis courts futilely searching for that forehand I was able to so easily hit back in high school.
Web Application Developer
As a .NET web application developer, I have been able to aquire skills in both web forms and MVC structured websites. People often think of a large institution like a University as a unified entity. In fact, the University consists of countless departments, divisions and colleges, most with their own dedicated IT staffs and their own technology road map. This means that hooking into what could be considered centralized UF systems can typically be best described as an adventure. For this reason my department has compiled multiple large namespaces of middle tier code for ease of maintaining, building and rapidly deploying front end applications. I have had a lot of fun coding and scripting front end applications as well as building and maintaining middle tier classes that do everything from data access to email throttling. This experience has given me a wide variety of programming experience and has required an eagerness to learn and tackle new challenges a prerequisite for the job.
Project Manager
My professional career started in Silicon Valley during the .com boom. I quickly leveraged my technical aptitude to move from marketing, into technical marketing and, ultimately, into technical project management. I worked for a variety of exciting startups and managed everything from network implementations to regional ISP service rollouts across multiple ILEC and CLEC's. In the end, I always enjoyed the technical side of project management the most. This is why I decided to return to school and become an application developer.
